Strengthening railway resilience against CBRNe threats requires collaboration, specialised expertise and forward-looking training solutions. This is the objective of the European project CBRNe4rail, aimed at enhancing preparedness across the railway sector.

Within this framework, Fondazione SAFE actively participated in a workshop held in Malmö, Sweden, bringing together the project consortium and railway end-users from Italy, Sweden, Poland, Spain and Slovenia, in cooperation with Uniwersytet Łódzki and Scuola NBC.

The workshop focused on validating the situational awareness of railway operators regarding CBRNe risks and on developing preliminary scenarios of potential events in railway stations and hubs. This step is essential for identifying user needs and laying the groundwork for targeted training programmes.

Fondazione SAFE played a key role by:

  • leading one of the working groups dedicated to scenario development;
  • collecting operational insights from railway end-users to support the design of training activities;
  • contributing initial concepts for the development of an innovative virtual reality training module.

The outcomes of this activity will directly support the development of advanced training solutions, which will be further validated during a dedicated workshop scheduled for May.

Fondazione SAFE remains committed to enhancing preparedness, supporting end-users and promoting innovative capacity-building approaches to address evolving CBRNe risks in the railway sector.
