Hotels and conference centres are spaces designed to welcome, connect and protect people. Strengthening their preparedness against emerging CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and explosive) threats is increasingly essential to ensure public safety.

On February 5th, the final conference of the European project HOTHREAT – Tailored CBRNe protection measures for hotels and conference centers took place in Łódź, Poland, marking the conclusion of nearly three years of collaboration among experts, practitioners and policymakers working to enhance prevention, preparedness and response capabilities in the HoReCa sector.

Within the project, Fondazione SAFE played a pivotal role by coordinating the development of the “Comprehensive CBRNe Protection System” Guidelines. SAFE contributed to building a tailored defence framework for hotels and conference centres, covering prevention, protection and response measures.

The guidelines also address critical areas such as food safety, epidemiological investigation protocols, VIP protection strategies, and cleaning service procedures in case of CBRNe incidents.

HOTHREAT delivered concrete and actionable recommendations to support hospitality venues in improving risk assessment, staff training, emergency preparedness and crisis communication, while fostering stronger cooperation with law enforcement and emergency services.

This project represents an important step forward in strengthening the resilience of public spaces and enhancing citizens’ safety across Europe.
