Fondazione SAFE has successfully concluded a week of operational testing at the Calvarina Testing and Training Area as part of the NATO DIANA (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic) programme.
During the testing campaign, Fondazione SAFE hosted Mantacus, a U.S. company and NATO DIANA graduate, to validate its proprietary wide-area situational awareness technology, the world’s first long-range automated system designed to detect concealed weapons across crowded and complex environments.
More than 50 professionals from the defence, security and innovation sectors participated in a series of realistic operational scenarios, including dispersed crowds, security checkpoints and airport-style environments. The activities provided an opportunity to assess the technology’s performance under representative operational conditions.
The week concluded with a demonstration event attended by more than 40 stakeholders from the defence, security, institutional and industrial communities, highlighting the dual-use potential of the solution and its possible operational applications.
The initiative further demonstrates the role of the Calvarina Testing and Training Area as a dedicated environment for the testing, validation and evaluation of emerging technologies in realistic operational settings. By bringing together technology developers, end users and institutional stakeholders, Fondazione SAFE helps bridge the gap between innovation and operational deployment, supporting the adoption of advanced capabilities for security and defence.
