The OPFA WASTE project will be supporting LEAs from several Member States on an EU-wide Transfrontier Shipments of Waste risk assessment. The aim of this pre-investigative activity will be to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement authorities in making use of their resources to targeting and detecting suspicious movements of waste across and beyond the borders of the EU. At the same time, highlighting loopholes within the shipment process. An international assessment will provide a more comprehensive picture, including trends and threats. Empowering national authorities but also international bodies as the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).

Against this backdrop, a team of experts guided by a Research Coordinator will be entrusted with data collection and analysis from Customs, Police and Environmental authorities of participating countries in relation to shipments of selected waste streams – within and without the EU.

As part of the team, the OPFA WASTE project consortium is looking for National Data Analysts to effectively liaise with local authorities of the target countries (Italy, Romania, Latvia, Spain, Belgium and Netherlands) in order to gather relevant information and perform data entry, cleaning, harmonisation and reporting to a Senior Data Analyst. The selected analysts should possess a proactive attitude when liaising with relevant public institutions in order to collect information and will be focussing on a specific geographical area, based on language skills. A professional level of English is required as well as proficiency in a second language such as Romanian, Latvian, Spanish, Italian or Dutch.

The short-term assignment will require the National Data Analysts to be hired by SAFE Foundation under the OPFA WASTE Project as an independent consultant (no conflict of interest should exist with current employment) for a limited number of days per month. The assignment should last 6 months starting from late June 2021.
