The European Security and Defence College was founded in 2005 and promotes training and educational activities for military and civilian personnel at European level in the frame of the Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). It is organised as a network bringing together civilian and military institutes, colleges, academies, universities, institutions and other actors dealing with security and defence policy issues within the Union as identified by Member States. The College is embedded in the European External Action Service, but it has its own legal capacity.

Fondazione SAFE, following the foreseen application process and presentation of its activities to the Executive Board of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) in July 2021, has been formally accepted by the Steering Committee of the ESDC as acceding member of its network.

SAFE will cooperate with the ESDC Network for the Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) courses SAFE organizes starting from September 2021, as well as to develop a first CBRN awareness training module for strategic-level officers and incident commanders.

This cooperation represents an important step for SAFE to enhance its training capacities, access to standardized training modules on security and defence, and strengthened institutional partnership with European Union agencies.

SAFE is listed as a member on the official ESDC website: https://esdc.europa.eu/institutes/
