Fondazione SAFE has obtained official accreditation as a Training Institution from the Italian National Order of Journalists, certifying the quality and authority of its BeSAFE HEAT – Hostile Environment Awareness Training courses.
For registered journalists, continuing professional education is a mandatory requirement: every year, a set number of Continuing Professional Education Credits (CFP) must be earned. Thanks to this accreditation, SAFE courses now offer a new opportunity: fulfilling this obligation through an innovative and hands-on pathway that goes far beyond traditional online modules, providing real preparation for personal and operational safety in the most challenging contexts.
This represents an important incentive for journalists who wish to transform a regulatory duty into a meaningful, motivating, and professionally valuable experience.
A consolidated track record
The ODG accreditation adds to a path already recognized at the national and European level:
-
SAFE is a member of the European Security & Defence College (ESDC) network, with HEAT courses certified in line with European standards.
-
Training is delivered in collaboration with the Italian Armed Forces, through a Framework Agreement with the Defence General Staff that ensures the direct involvement of Special Forces instructors from the Navy, Army, and Air Force.
-
Since 2023, SAFE has been a training partner of RAI – Radiotelevisione Italiana, with over 127 journalists and media professionals trained.
-
Since 2021, SAFE has organized more than 24 BeSAFE HEAT courses, training over 260 professionals from NGOs, EU missions, international organizations, and media outlets.
In addition to field training, Fondazione SAFE also acts as a technical partner of the ESDC within the working group responsible for updating the standard HEAT curriculum at the European level—further recognition of the expertise and credibility developed over the years.
A mission confirmed
The ODG accreditation is much more than a formality: it is an institutional confirmation of the mission that SAFE has pursued since its foundation—promoting a culture of security as a tool of freedom and protection for media professionals and for all those working on the front lines in complex environments.
