Last week, in Lebanon, preparations for the ARZ21 Counter-Terrorism Field Exercise have been done. The exercise has been conceived and delivered in order to test and validate the capabilities acquired by the Lebanese authorities involved in the activities to counter CBRN risks and highlight the importance of the EU CoE initiative.

ARZ 2021 was organised under the Patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Lebanon, within the framework of the European Union CBRN Centres of Excellence Initiative (CoE). The exercise involved 210 participants from 5 Lebanese agencies, 18 external observers from Italian Army, French Swat, SCK-CEN, Interpol, OPCW, League of Arab States and NATO School

The (CBRN) Risk Mitigation (CoE) Initiative is led by the European Union (EU), and implemented by the European Commission, in close coordination with the European External Action Service (EEAS), with the support of the UN (UNICRI) and other international organizations and local experts. The CBRN CoE Initiative seeks to boost national, regional and international cooperation and to develop a common and coherent CBRN risk mitigation policy at national and regional level.

European Commission, UNICRI – United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, ISTC, and SAFE cooperation has made it possible to reach this crucial interagency cooperation results despite che complicated context.

SAFE is proud to participate in enhancing CBRN preparedness and is ready to implement new activities in this domain!
