SAFE integrates Virtual Reality into CBRN training at the Joint NBC School

As part of the CBRNe4Rail project, Fondazione SAFE is contributing to the development of innovative training approaches for CBRN emergency response in railway environments, combining operational expertise with immersive technologies.

SAFE recently took part in a specialised CBRN training course at the Joint NBC School in Rieti, contributing to the programme both as a trainee and as a trainer. As a trainee, SAFE strengthened its internal expertise in CBRN emergency response procedures and operational training. As a trainer, the Foundation led the development and delivery of a new Virtual Reality (VR) training module designed to support participants in practising emergency response procedures within a realistic railway scenario.

The integration of the VR module represents an important milestone for the project and for CBRN training at the Joint NBC School. For the first time, a VR-based training module is being integrated into a CBRN course at the School, introducing immersive simulation into an operational training environment.

By recreating a realistic railway emergency scenario, the module allows participants to practise response procedures in a controlled environment, complementing theoretical preparation and traditional in-situ exercises. This approach supports the development of practical skills while enabling participants to experience and respond to complex CBRN scenarios before facing similar situations in the field.

Through CBRNe4Rail, SAFE is working together with the Joint NBC School to connect technology, operational expertise and real-world preparedness, contributing to the development of innovative training solutions for CBRN emergency response in the railway sector.
