The EU funded Project “OPFA WASTE – Operational Facility for fighting Illicit Waste Trafficking” is honored to host the European Anti-Fraud Office – OLAF as guest speaker to the Second Operational Workshop, taking place on 5-6 May 2021.
The Project’s workshops cycle aims at developing standardized investigative methodologies at EU level for fighting Illicit Waste Trafficking. Workshops are led by police officers from different Member States, specialized in environmental, financial and organised crime.
OLAF participation and intervention in the context of the Workshop session on “Transfrontier Shipments of Waste: EU Regulations and illicit trafficking patterns” will be crucially essential.
By virtue of the EU Anti-Fraud Office mandate to detect, investigate and stop fraud with EU funds, a spotlight on waste movements within and across EU boundaries, focused on containers tracking, repatriation of waste and the need to harmonize procedures to prevent frauds will be of utmost relevance.
The Second Operational Workshop will provide the ideal forum for a wide range of stakeholders (police forces, inspection authorities, customs, EU agencies, waste management companies, research institutes, universities, etc) to get engaged, discuss and enhance existing information, complementing each other’s knowledge on specific topics related to Illicit Waste Trafficking.
